We are proud to report that HOLA had another successful and rewarding trip to Nicaragua this May! HOLA members finally saw their 9 months of hard work and preparation pay off. With the help of Nicaraguan Physician, Dr. Somarriba, HOLA attended 423 patients in the communities of Las Lomas, El Mojon Sur, Puerto Sandino, Mira Mar and San Ramon. Additionally with the help of Nicaraguan Veterinarians Dr. Daniel Morales and Dr. Jose Luis Aguirre, Director of Veterinary Operations, Heather Granger, reported that HOLA cared for 621 animals and provided the necessary supplies to perform 38 surgeries - setting our highest record yet! HOLA also visited the schools of MaryKnoll and Alberto to provide public health seminars to over 1,000 community members including students, teachers and parents. Thanks to Cascade Designs, HOLA was able to distribute 177 water bottles to Nicaraguan residents who participated in our Public Health discussions and seminars. Additionally, HOLA would like to thank the outstanding Nicaraguan translators who year-after-year help make our work possible. Lastly, a huge shout out to all of our wonderful members and dedicated directors Philip Vega, Nana Derugina, Ana Kelty, Heather Granger, Hayley Petrick, Sloane O'Neil, Kailey O'Connell, and Hannah Tighe who helped make this years trip a success!
We are excited to announce that the HOLA Foundation has been accepted by Project V.E.T.S as a recipient organization. Project V.E.T.S strives to improve the health and welfare of animals around the world by distributing donated equipment/supplies to veterinarian nonprofit organizations. In the United States and many other industrialized countries, new equipment and technologies become available, and the replaced item is often thrown away. Project V.E.T.S. works to keep these valuable resources out of the landfill, and instead utilize the equipment and supplies all over the world. We are thrilled to be working with such a wonderful group, check them out! http://www.projectvets.org
Down in Nicaragua our clinics see all types of animals from cats to cows. We want our members to be as prepared as possible to help the local Nicaraguan veterinarians so we hold small and large animal training to help get them ready. Here are some photos from the events.
Congratulations to our members who participated in the Bike Ride Fundraiser last weekend. They rode over 30 miles to raise funds for our upcoming mission trip to Chacraseca, Nicaragua. Nice work!! Here are some photos from the event.

HOLA members braved the snowy weather for a clinical training at Rocky Vista University in Parker, Colorado. Medical students instructed on how to properly measure pulse and blood pressure as well as important health topics in Nicaragua such as diabetes and hypertension. Members were also shown some of the holistic methods taught at DO schools like Rocky Vista. We are extremely grateful of the Rocky Vista students for taking the time to meet with us and look forward to working with them in the future!
